Community Spotlight: Kelly D’Atri & Jace McMurray

Kelly D’Atri and Jace McMurray just finished the B.O. O. S. T. program at the Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center. They both earned their Wyoming High School Equivalency Certificate, and are both candidates for the National Honor Society because of their test scores. They both earned high enough scores to also qualify for the highest Hathaway Scholarship. They took the Wyoming Work Keys assessment and received gold certificates, which lets future employers know they are proficient in reading, math, and locating information on a computer. Kelly has already signed up for classes at Western Wyoming College starting in Jan. 2014, and Jace intends to sign up soon.

Jace left high school during his sophomore year because of attendance problems, due to illness. He decided to attend the B.O.O.S.T. program for several reasons. He wanted to earn his equivalency certificate so he could start college, but he was also interested in some of the life and job skills offered. Kelly dropped out of high school in her sophomore year. Two years later, in Sept, 2013, she realized she wanted to go to college, but needed her G.E.D. first. She joined the B.O.O.S.T. program because she wanted to review the core subjects before testing.

Both students have received certifications for CPR, AHA, Defensive Driving, Cent$ible Nutrition, and Essentials of Leadership. They both received résumé and other job skill training from Wyoming Workforce Services, who, along with the Uinta County Human Services, sponsors the B.O.O.S.T. program.

Kelly and Jace both said they are grateful for the B.O.O.S.T. program, and for the chance to get started on the path toward their career goals.

  • “Everyone that’s in my life. I am pretty lucky.” Jennifer Barrus

I’m thankful I have the opportunity to help ohers – it keeps one from becoming selfish. Most of all, I’m thankful for a loving, forgiving, understanding Father in Heaven. Without him, I would not be the person I am.” Trudy Biorn

We all have so much to be thankful for – instead of only thinking of these once a year, we hope to remember our blessings all throughout 2014 and beyond!
