Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Spotlight: Linda Cummings

Linda Cummings

Since 1998, at Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center Linda Cummings has been a fixture as a board member and then as the chairperson of the board.  With the past election, a new era will begin since Linda decided against running for the Uinta County School District #1 Board of Trustees.  As this new era starts, we would like to take a look back and thank Linda for all of her support and contributions to Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center, and find out just what made Linda work.

Linda Cummings was born and raised in Evanston, Wyoming.  She is the director of S.A.F.V. and started her political run on the school board in 1996.  Quickly, she became a board member on Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center board as well.  Linda was always a strong supporter, and as many may not know, she had good reason to be.  Linda did not graduate from high school, but went on to earn her GED from Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center in 1993.  Linda stated this was part of the reason she has been such an advocate of the program.  She knows how Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center affects people’s lives.

While many positive improvements came about with her leadership, Linda was most proud of Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 gaining possession of their new (eight-year-old) building which was purchased from BP.  The staff has always made Linda proud and happy to support the program as well.  She stated employees were always so great and very loyal to the Center; they are the wheels that make the bus go around.  When asked about what success was to her, she tilted her head and smiled.  “I think success is that you are happy, have a contented life, and have done the best you could have done.   It is also about work ethic.”  While we will take her advice with us, Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center knows Linda has reached success.

Her advice to the next chairperson?  Listen to everybody – with an entity governed by two different divisions, Linda feels it is so important to listen so the outcome is based on what is best for Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Center.  Linda’s future plan is to retire- eventually, but people who know her will tell you she does not plan on slowing down.  If she is not hand-making her Christmas gifts or grandkids Halloween costumes, she will be sewing, cooking or baking.   Her own favorite gift, simply a family photograph of her three sons – from the story, it took a lot of doing for her to finally get one.  As Linda leaves the Uinta B.O.C.E.S. #1 Education Centers’ Chair, we wish her only the best in her future endeavors.  If the past is any indication, we are certain success will find her.

We want to send a special Thank You out to Linda.  You will be truly missed!
